Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize

The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is the most important research award in Germany. The Leibniz Programme, established in 1985, aims to honour outstanding scientists and academics, expand their research opportunities, and help them employ particularly qualified early career researchers.

For the year 2022, Prof. Dr. Karen Radner, holder of the Chair of Ancient History of the Near and Middle East, was awarded.

“Radner has pioneered the indexing of Assyrian sources, and her work has the potential to redefine mutual knowledge and relations between the Orient and the Occident.“, the DFG honors Prof. Radner' s research on December 9, 2021.

Award winners can use the prize money of 2.5 million euros for their scientific work over a period of up to seven years.

Alexander von Humboldt Professorship

The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship is Germany's most prestigious and highly endowed research award. With this award, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research aim to attract globally sought-after researchers for long-term academic careers in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Karen Radner has held the Alexander von Humboldt Professorship in Ancient History of the Near and Middle East at the Faculty of History and the Arts since 2014. She ranks among the world's leading experts in Ancient History of the Near and Middle East History, particularly the Assyrian Empire.
